Feb 17, 2018 As the ram extends, it sags. The more wear the ram ways have, the worse the sag. It's not a big deal in a cutting operation because the tool pressure is always in the same direction (it only cuts on the forward stroke). With a grinding wheel, I would think the wheel would skip on the return stroke. If you need a grinder, buy a grinder

Jul 03, 2011 So broaching or forming like a plunge cutter is the best thing to concider. The plunge or stroke style machine is hard to find . I have a shaper 1945 or so but the tooling holder was not made close enough to use for a cutter of this nature . Anyone else ? thanks for your time .JEss
